  This is Mrs Stone's second term as Staff Governor. She currently teaches Year 6. She is also the Deputy Headteacher, Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead & Prevent Lead Deputy. Mrs Stone has been teaching at Handcross Primary for over 7 years.�

  In July 2019 I was co-opted onto the Governing Body of Handcross Primary School, I live locally and have a commitment to supporting the local community and believe each and every child should have access to the very best. Currently, I am the Programme Manager for a national education charity, Speakers for Schools, which supports state secondary schools and colleges across the UK. Having previously worked in programme management and conferencing�for over 5 years, I have a wealth of experience working with world-class clients, speakers and suppliers in both the public and private sector. It is an honour to join the Governing Body and use my skills and experiences to help shape the future of Handcross Primary School and ensure each and every child has a strong foundation to support them in their future. �

  I am a mother to two children at Handcross Primary School; Bella in year 4 and Harriet in year 1 and we hope that Matthew will also be allocated a place in January and start in reception in September 2020. Having also lived in the village for 12 years I have a clear understanding of the position this educational establishment has on shaping our children�s future and the future of our local community.

  I am a paediatric nurse by profession, initially specialising in children�s emergency medicine and later, taking on further MSc study for my current role as Nurse Consultant for Safeguarding.

  I have been a member of the PTA since it started in October 2018 and have helped support the varied fundraising events run in its first year.

  I am also involved in the Handcross Community Preschool as one of the four Trustees required as part of the Charities Commission.

  I consider myself to be a lively, approachable person with a good sense of humour, and given that I will soon (hopefully) have three children at the school feel it is a timely opportunity to �give something back� to the primary school which has given my children so much.

  I was elected as a Parent Governor for the second time in December 2017. My son Joseph is in Kestrels and I was previously a governor from 2008 to 2012 when my older son Elliot first started at the school. I have lived in Pease Pottage for over 20 years and before that in Crawley for most of my life. I am married to Rachel, a psychiatric nurse. I am a trustee of Broadfield Community Centre and Broadfield Christian Fellowship and heavily involved in the running of both. I also volunteer with the Easter Team, which supports homeless and disadvantaged people in Crawley. Following my graduation from Loughborough University I worked in IT in London for many years and now have a small business specialising in website hosting and design and computer maintenance. I love music and enjoy singing and playing the guitar. I am keen to play a part in helping to maintain and improve standards at this excellent school.

  Having been apart of the school in so many ways, and watched it grow over the last 11 years, I see the governor role enabling me to stay part of the 'Handcross Primary School team.'  I feel my experience and knowledge as a parent of the school can help when seeing through the eyes of the parents. 

  My working at the school means I have a good knowledge of the operational side, the staff and children. Living in the area means I get to know what is going on in the community and this is all relative to the school environment.

  I am also now working for West Sussex County Council  in the Pupil Entitlement team, so I have a greater depth of background in education to offer.

  Having spent over 30 years in the field of education within a range of roles including class teacher, deputy head teacher, mathematics adviser, OFSTED inspector and headteacher, I believe I bring wide experience and skills to a school governing body.

  Since retirement as head teacher in 2014, I have devoted some of my time to voluntary work. Currently I am a volunteer in the out-patients department at the Princess Royal Hospital and for the past two years Chair of Trustees for the Mid-Sussex special needs charity Kangaroos.

  I believe passionately in giving every child the very best opportunities at school so they can develop into well rounded young people with the confidence to achieve their own personal aspirations in life.

  As a governor, I see the role as supporting the head teacher and staff in achieving the very best outcomes for the children at the school from a strategic perspective.
